China’s Communist Party set a goal of making China a ‘harmonious‘ society. Fast growth of China’s economy causes many social problems. Many Chinese are unhappy with the changes in China. President Hu Jintao proposed the policy to the Party. Their agreement shows that President Hu is the most powerful man in China and the Party will do what he wants.
A Party statement said: ‘China is a harmonious society in general, but there are many conflicts and problems affecting social harmony. We must always remain clear-headed and be vigilant even in tranquil times.’
The fast growing economy causes many problems for Chinese people. These problems include:
- stay poor
- The divorce rate is climbing quickly causing problems over property and children
- farm land caused farmers to fight with soldiers
Many experts say that China wants to use some of its strong economy to provide good health, education and welfare programs. Others say it means that President Hu will not allow people with different ideas to be heard.
