Life with Stress

Some people say that we have stress when the demands on us are greater than we are able to meet those demands. Others say change itself is the same thing as stress. Too many changes add up to the experience of crisis.

By the time we are adults, most people have had a bad feeling that `something is going on in me that I wish I could stop`. That signal can help to spare us injuries, accidents, and illnesses if it gets our attention and causes us to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life. When we have too much stress is in our lives, our vision becomes narrow, our blood pressure goes up, and our patience is reduced. Hormones may change which sometimes affect digestion, sleep, and the energy we have for our daily work, family and play.

Change and some demands on us are healthy for us. It is important to make sure that these demands are believe-able and do-able. Looking closely at the demands on us helps us decide what is realistic for us to be able to do. These demands help us choose to what or to whom we want to commit our life work and values.
