When something very bad happens to a friend, it is proper for us to write a letter to them. This can be very hard to do because we do not know what to say. Here are three helpful ideas.
- Tell your friend that you know they are feeling very bad and that you care that they feel bad.
- Offer to help your friend in some way.
- If your friend has lost a relative to death, praise the person who died. Do not say too much about your own feelings because the purpose of the letter is to make your friend feel better.
The letter should be written by hand on good paper using black ink. The tone of the letter should be sympathetic but formal. The letter does not have to be long. Here is an example:
Please accept my sympathy for the death of your husband. Your husband was a friend
to many people and we are all very sad. I know that words of mine cannot make you feel better. I will call on you soon to see how
I can help you.
